The Department of Bioinformatics was established in 2014. It is a National First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Site, a brand major in Jiangsu Province, and a first-class undergraduate major in Jiangsu Province. The Department has a provincial practical teaching demonstration center, and is the first bioinformatics undergraduates training base in Jiangsu Province. At present, the Department has a faculty of 16 members, including 1 professor, 9 associate professors, and 6 lecturers; 1 recipient of the National Excellent Youth Fund; 2 recipients of the Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund.

      The teaching team has been working on the front line of bioinformatics teaching and talent training for a long time, to constantly improve the reform research and practice of talent training programs. A bioinformatics talent training model integrating medicine and science has been formed. The Department is committed to educational reform. It has won the second prize for National Teaching Achievements Award, multiple provincial first prizes, 8 provincial and ministerial-level and Chinese Medical Association education research projects, published more than 10 high-quality teaching research papers. The Department has received a number of teaching-related honors. Teachers have guided students in various competitions, winning more than 90 national, provincial and ministerial awards.

      In the past five years, the faculty has undertaken many national and provincial research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Youth Talent Project, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Jiangsu Provincial Distinguished Youth Fund Project, Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and Jiangsu Provincial Key Research and Development Program. The Department has formed its strength in the research of tumor genomes based on high-throughput sequencing. Research outcomes have been published in the top academic journals, such as Cell, Cancer Cell, Nature Medicine, Lancet Oncology and Cancer Discovery, etc.
